Joyce Nell Simmons

Joyce Nell Simmons, age 90. of Waco, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 9, 2016 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Private family memorial services will be held at a later date. Joyce was born March 2, 1926 in Cooper, TX the daughter of Nelson and Mabel (Snyder) Kern. She attended schools in Cooper and with a graduate of Cooper High School. Joyce was a daycare teacher for over 30 years for Murphy's Daycare Center in Farmers Branch. She also worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company in Irving. Joyce was a member of the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed cattle shows, home shopping and tending her plants. Joyce was an avid Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs fan. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Joyce is preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Hassie Clingman and Eva Kern. Survivors include a son, Frank Abel and wife Cindy of Axtell; daughters, Kathy Chambers and husband Chuck of Texarkana, and Suzy Johnson and Joy Minix and husband Donny, all of West; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Fuzzy Friends Rescue, 6321 Airport Road, Waco, TX 76702.
