Josephine Makovy

Josephine Martha (Bezdek) Makovy, age 82, of Penelope, passed away Wednesday morning, May 21, 2008 at her residence. A rosary will be recited 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West by Missy Pustejovsky, followed by a visitation until 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Penelope, with Rev. B. George and Msgr. Isidore Rozycki as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Penelope. Mrs. Makovy was born on March 16, 1926 in Abbott, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Vochoska) Bezdek. She attended Denton Hill School and graduated from Abbott High School. On July 10, 1944, she was united in marriage to Edward John Makovy Sr. in Salina, Kansas. She worked as a seamstress for Wolf Manufacturing in Hubbard and Lorch Manufacturing in West for several years until her retirement in 1966. Josephine was a homemaker and farmed with her husband for many years. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, reading, canning, playing the piano and especially spending time with her family and singing gospel music. She was a member of Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Penelope and R.V.O.S. She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joe Bezdek; and two sisters, Irene James and Mary Dudik. Survivors include her beloved husband of 63 years, Edward John Makovy of Penelope; one son Edward James Makovy and wife Patsy of Abbott; two daughters, Evelyn Ann Makovy Barton of Penelope and Donna Jean Makovy Hawkins and husband Jack of Mt. Calm; two brothers, Jerry Bezdek of West and Daniel Bezdek of Kennedale; two sisters, Evelyn Hanak of West and Dorothy Dyer of Garland; two grandchildren, Shane Hawkins and Joshua Hawkins and wife Jessica; caregiver, Carolyn Payne; special friend, Eula Mae Hanzlicek; her dog, Sparky; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers will be Bill Hawkins, Shane Hawkins, Bobby Tlustos, Michael Bezdek, John Ondrej Jr., Sunny Tlustos and Ben Hanak. Memorials may be made to Church of the Nativity of B.V.M. Catholic Church in Penelope or Penelope Fire Department.
