Josephine "Josie" Kucera, age 93, of West, passed away early Thursday morning, November 2, 2006 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. A Rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mrs. Kucera was born October 28, 1913 in Leroy, one of seven children born to Adolph and Mary (Debbendenner) Grellhesl. She attended school in Tours. On December 28, 1931 she was united in marriage to Emil F. Kucera in Tours. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Abbott to begin their life together. Josie helped on the family farm in addition to being a housewife and mother. On April 24, 1976 Emil passed away and Josie then moved to West to be closer to her son and grandchildren. She was a baker for Kolacek's Bakery in west for many years. She was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, K.J.Z.T. Society No. 11, and the Ladies Altar Society. Josie enjoyed cooking, especially for her family. Survivors include a son, Jerry Kucera, Sr. and his wife Dorothy of West; a sister, Ellen Schroeder of West; five grandchildren, Monica Ferguson and her husband Dan, Jerry Kucera Jr., Paul Kucera and his fiancee Loretta Cvikel, Steven Kucera and his wife Stephanie, and Angela Thompson and her husband Tony; 12 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Steven Kucera, Paul Kucera, Dan Ferguson, Tony Thompson, Billy Kucera, and Edmund Sykora. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center or West Rest Haven Memorial Fund.
