Josephine Kocian

Josephine (Hutyra) Kocian, age 88, of West, passed away Sunday morning, June 14, 2020 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2020 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery near West. Josephine was born November 23, 1931 near West, the daughter of Ignatius and Anastasia (Sulak) Hutyra. She was a graduate of St. Mary's School and West High School. On November 24, 1952 she was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Kocian Sr. in West. Ted preceded her in death on May 2, 1997. Josephine was a lifelong and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #54, KJZT Society #11 and the Catholic Daughter of America Court #829. Josephine was a homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for many area Czech weddings and at the West Senior Center. Josephine was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Longhorns. Josephine is also preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Rick Russell; brothers, Patrick Hutyra Sr. and Walter Hutyra; and sisters, Margaret "Margie" Cocek, Bennice Koen, Bernice Lichnovsky, Bridgette Wrbas, Evelyn Wilson, and Angela Kelinske. Survivors include her children, Teddy Kocian and wife Toni of Waco, Tim Kocian of West, Janice Russell of West, Randy Kocian of Huntsville, Amy Kocian of West, and Jennifer Cox and husband David of Lorena; a brother, Ignatius Hutyra Jr.; her grandchildren Kaci Hodges and Jeremy, Amanda Litke and husband Ryan, Cody Kocian and wife Jessi, and Jordyn Russell; her great grandchildren, Sophia Litke, Beckett Kocian and Ronyn Merino; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Monroe Kelinske, Buddy Cocek, Patrick Hutyra Jr., Dwayne Lichnovsky, Mark Lichnovsky and Cody Kocian. Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or to the charity of your choice.
