Joseph H. Corbett, M. D., age 84, of Elm Mott, passed away Wednesday evening, November 9, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Greg Way officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Gerald Cemetery near Leroy, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Dr. Corbett was born June 3, 1927 in Vivian, Louisiana, the son of Julian Mack and Bobbie Lee (Clements) Corbett. He attended Buckner Academy Orphanage in Dallas and graduated from Howard Payne College in Brownwood with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He then went on to the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston and received his Medical Doctorate. Dr. Corbett served his country with the United States Army Air Corp during World War II as an Aviation Cadet and during the Korean Conflict as a flight surgeon. On April 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Marie Seamans in Brownwood. Dr. Corbett started his practice in Waco in 1955 and worked as a family practitioner for Hillcrest Family Health Clinic and Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. He loved the medical profession and worked diligently in caring for his patients until his retirement on December 31, 2004. Dr. Corbett loved his ranch and enjoyed hunting and taking care of his dogs and cats. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit. He was also a member of the Texas Medical Assn. and the American Medical Assn. Dr. Corbett is preceded in death by his parents; a son, John Paul Corbett; four brothers; and two sisters. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Marie Corbett of Elm Mott; a son, James E. Corbett of West; a daughter, Lisa Corbett Tucker and husband Ricky of Pipe Creek; three grandchildren, Jason Corbett, and Tiffany McDaniel and husband Derek, all of Keller; and Nikki Mattick and husband Keaton of Boerne; three great-grandsons, Cody Joseph "Joe Fish" Mattick, Colt Brennan Mattick, and Gavin Derek McDaniel; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Michail McQueen, Phillip McQueen, Pat McQueen, and Jimmy McQueen. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elm Mott United Methodist Church or The Shepherd's Heart Food Pantry, P. O. Box 23175, Waco, Texas 76702.
