Johnny Sewell Adams

Johnny Sewell Adams, age 87, of West, passed away early Monday evening, August 6, 2007 at West Rest Haven. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Bob Martin officiating. Military and Masonic Graveside Rites will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Adams was born on December 2, 1919 in Morgan Mill, Texas, the son of John Wyatt and Mary (Sewell) Adams. He graduated from Morgan Mill High School. In serving his country, he joined the U. S. Marine Corp and served during World War II. He married Roberta Bess (McKeel) Plymell on April 19, 1968 in Waco. She preceded him in death on August 14, 1992. He then married Martha (McMahan) Gilchrist on January 17, 1997 in West. Johnny was owner and operator of A & W Drayage Trucking Company for over twenty years until his retirement in 1992. He also worked as a plant manager for Strickland and Central Freight Lines in Waco for several years along with driving trucks for many other companies in the area. Johnny loved to preside over all the Masonic Funerals, driving children in need to the Scottish Rite Hospital and he enjoyed drinking his coffee and visiting with all of his friends. He served as President and Board Member of the Axtell School Board for over 20 years. He was a member of West Church of Christ, the Scottish Rite, Masonic Lodge #1329 in Bellmead, Masonic Lodge #155 in Dawson and Masonic Lodge George M. Denton #24. Johnny is also preceded in death by three sons, David Norvell Adams, John Michael Adams and James Russell Plymell. Survivors include his wife, Martha Adams of West; one son, Larry Adams and wife Jenny, of Bryan; two daughters, Jane Hull and husband Buddy, of Paradise, and Sandra Pitt and husband Daniel, of Waco; three step-sons, James Gilchrist and wife Karen, of Waco, William Gilchrist and wife Arlene, and David Gilchrist, all of Houston; four step-daughters, Paula Aguillon, of Temple, Mary Summers and husband A.B., of West, and Doris Maywald and husband Archie, of Tomball and Karen Vasquez of Waco; one half-sister, Mildred Seward, of Liberty Hill; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be Derrell Farrar, Jr., Daniel Pitt, James Gilchrist, Billy Gilchrist, Mike Adams, Jim Adams and Jamie Adams. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Masonic Lodge. Memorials may be made to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas.
