Johnny F. Muehlstein, age 97, of West, passed away Saturday morning, March 24, 2007 at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek and Rev. Vincent Chacko, I.M.S. as celebrants. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Muehlstein was born May 12, 1909 in Jones County, near Corinth, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Mikes) Muehlstein. He attended grade school in New Hope before going to work on the family farm. On June 24, 1935 he was united in marriage to Anne Kolar in West. She preceded him in death on October 13, 1991. Then, on March 13, 1994 he was united in marriage to Evelyn Machovsky. Johnny was a farmer all his life, spending six years in the Abbott area and over fifty years in the Avoca area before retiring in 1994. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, Knights of Columbus #2305, K.J.T. Society No. 11, and a life member of SPJST Lodge #6. Johnny enjoyed hunting, traveling, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Muehlstein is also preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers. Survivors include his beloved wife of 13 years, Evelyn Muehlstein of West; two sons, Johnny Muehlstein and wife Jerry Ann of Grapevine and Larry Muehlstein of Kosse; two daughters, Georgia Ann Hughes of Denton and Mildred Agnes Powell and husband Edwin of Georgetown; 15 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Junior Catholic Daughters of West, Providence Hospice, or St. Mary's Parish Center.
