Johnnie "PoPo" Hutyra, age 85, of West, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 14, 2015 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Melvin Dornak and Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrants. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Johnnie was born December 6, 1929 in Abbott, the son of William and Mary (Nors) Hutyra. He attended school in Abbott. Johnnie served his country with the United States Army during the Korean War. On May 15, 1954 he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Mary Ann Marek in West. Johnnie was the night foreman of Texas Prestressed Concrete and Texas Concrete Partners in Elm Mott for over 20 years before retiring in 1992. He also worked for HEB, Oak Farm's Milk Company in Waco, Busby Grocery and Henry Popp's Store in West. Johnnie was a longtime and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the SPJST Lodge #54 and West VFW Post #4819. Johnnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, backyard Barbeques, mowing his yard, building birdhouses, riding in the country and listening to country music. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them life skills. He also loved his great grandchildren and enjoyed making them laugh. Johnnie is preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Colby Hutyra; and a brother, Willie Hutyra. Survivors include his beloved wife of 61 years, Mary Ann Hutyra of West; children, David Hutyra and wife Joy of Elm Mott, Doris Ann Stewart and husband David of Bruceville, and Johnny Ray Hutyra and wife Michelle of West; a brother, Freddie Hutyra and wife Josephine; grandchildren, Heather Lightfoot and husband Jeremy, Nichole Andrews and husband Will, Samantha Stewart and boyfriend Kyle Svrcek, Chris Hutyra, Keith Hutyra, Derek Hutyra and wife Erica, and Brianna Hutyra; great grandchildren, Abigail, Landry, Avery and Addison; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Derek Hutyra, Keith Hutyra, Chris Hutyra, Michael Hutyra, Eddie Marek and Jeremy Lightfoot. Honorary pallbearers are Heather Lightfoot, Nichole Andrews, Samantha Stewart and Brianna Hutyra. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund.
