Johnnie Albert Sinkule, age 95, formerly of the Chatt community, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 19, 2018 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Joseph Keating as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. Johnnie was born on May 21, 1922 on the family farm in the Tokio community, the youngest son of Matthew and Frances (Hejl) Sinkule. He attended schools in Tokio and West. Johnnie enlisted in the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and served for 3 years during World War II stationed mainly in Italy before being honorably discharged. On November 19, 1947, he was united in marriage to Agnes Pustejovsky in West. After their marriage, Johnnie and Agnes lived and farmed in West and in 1950, started their family with the birth of their first child, David. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Grandview where Johnnie worked for Gulf Oil and farmed. In 1954, they moved to the Chatt community, built a home and in 1956, their second child, Susan was born. They spent their remaining years at Chatt farming and ranching. Johnnie also worked for the Hill County Soil Conservation Service. Johnnie was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott where he served on the parish council for over 25 years, a member of the Abbott KJT Society #107, a member of the West Knights of Columbus #2305 and president of the Fatima Cemetery Association for over 15 years. Johnnie was also a member of the Hill County Farm Bureau where he served as president and the Chatt Water Supply Corporation where he was instrumental in its development and served as their secretary. He was also a member of the West VFW Post #4819. Johnnie was a talented water well witcher. He assisted both the Chatt and Menlow Water Supply Corporation in establishing their wells, in addition to a number of local individuals with private wells. Johnnie enjoyed fishing in his stock pond, hunting, watching and playing baseball and spending time with his family. He was also very interested and well-versed in history and current events and religion. During his retirement years, he restored antique John Deere tractors and tinkered with his VW Rabbit car. He enjoyed his morning social coffee visits with neighbors and friends in the community. Johnnie is preceded in death by his wife; parents; brothers and spouses; Alois, Jim, Joe (Mary) and Jerry (Margaret) Sinkule; sisters and spouses, Frances (Frank) Nors, Stacy (Joe) Soukup and Rose and Lillian Sinkule; and daughter-in-law, Sheri Smith Sinkule. Survivors include his son, David Sinkule of West; daughter, Susan Miklis and fianc Larry Roberts of Cleburne; six grandchildren, Daryl Sinkule of Houston, Jennifer Watson Stithem and husband, Scott of Plano, Amber Williams Barber and husband Will of Coeur dAlene, ID, Kayla Sinkule of Kansas City, MO, Chris Miklis and wife Savanah of Canton and Stephanie Matos and husband Manuel of Fort Worth; 9 great-grandchildren, Emma and Brooks Watson, Ethan and Evan Stithem, Max Barber, Cameron and Corbin Miklis, Masen Caudle and Logan Matos; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Charles Kubala, Tommy Sinkule, Jerry Sinkule, Joseph Pustejovsky, Jodie Lenart and Mike Spinks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Religious Education Program at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott.
