John R. Urban, age 91, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, January 22, 2006 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. John was born April 10, 1914 near West, with son of John and Mary (Slovak) Urban. As a young boy he attended the Tokio school. On November 17, 1943 he was united in marriage to Rosie Skerik in West. She preceded him in death on February 7, 2003. John was a farmer for most of his life until he retired in 1979. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the K.J.T. Society No. 31. John Enjoyed farming and tending to his cattle, and especially loved his family. His parents; three brothers, Joe W. Urban, Frank Urban, and Robert Urban; three sisters, Frances "Fannie" Urban, Josephine Urban, and Philomena Urban; two step brothers, Anton Urban and Pete Urban; and two step sisters, Victoria Soukup and Clara Pavlas also preceded him in death. Survivors include a son Joe F. Urban and wife Linda of West; six granddaughters, Theresa Marek, Angela Urban, Jessica Urban, Sarah Urban, Lindsay Urban, and Jackie Riemenschneider; four great grandchildren, Garrett & Taylor Marek and Jenna & Braden Riemenschneider; a sister, Mary Alexander of Aquilla; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Bobby Soukup, Henry Soukup, Robert Skerik, Frankie Skerik, Jerry Girard and Lawrence Girard. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center or the charity of your choice.
