John R. Crawshaw, age 83, of Milam, formerly of West, passed away late Monday evening, April 24, 2006 in a San Augustine hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of West with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Crawshaw was born December 31, 1922 in Maple Hill, Kansas, the son of Richard Henry and Ollie Jane (Hibdon) Crawshaw. He graduated from Maple Hill High School in Kansas and attended Texas A&M University. He was married to Elizabeth "Betty" Rueter on August 15, 1945 in Denton. She preceded him in death on May 1, 1980. He later married Grace Agnes Crawford on January 1, 1982 in Houston. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II. He was a bus driver for the city of Topeka, Kansas until moving to Texas in 1949. Mr. Crawshaw was a dairy farmer for most of his life until he retired in 1984. He loved to rodeo and was a past President of West Longhorn Club for several years. He was an avid gardener and fisherman. He lived on Toledo Bend Reservoir and traveled to Algoma, Wisconsin where he enjoyed fishing. He also loved woodworking, and was always making something to give to his grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a sister, Agatha Naomi "Gay" Wolffarth, and a son-in-law, Bob Miracle. He is survived by his wife, Grace of Milam; two sons, Bill Crawshaw and wife Leigh, and George Crawshaw and wife Tammie, all of West; two daughters, Jane Miracle of Eddy, and Susan Jones and husband Ken of Midlothian; two step-sons, Glenn Lane and wife Ruby, and Gary Lane and wife Suzanne, all of Kansas City, Missouri; two step-daughters, Gayle Linderman and husband Mark of Alvin, and Gwen Schelski and husband Mike of Sugerland; a brother, Richard Crawshaw and wife Jean of Topeka, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Jeff Odle and wife Melissa, Tammy Yakesch, Kyle Jones and wife Jocelynn, Clifton Jones, Adam Crawshaw, Austin Crawshaw, Jacob Crawshaw, Clint Crawshaw and Sarah Crawshaw; four great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, Glenn Lane Jr., Joshua Lane, Jennifer Logan, Megan Linderman, Andrew Logan, Michael Linderman, Paul O'banion and Tina Koladycz and husband Scott; three step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Jeff Odle, Kyle Jones, Clifton Jones, Adam Crawshaw, Austin Crawshaw, Jacob Crawshaw, Clint Crawshaw, Hunter Odle, Andrew Logan and Paul O'Banion. Honorary pallbearers will be Tammy Yakesch, Sarah Crawshaw, Glenn Lane Jr., Joshua Lane, Jennifer Logan, Megan Linderman, Michael Linderman & Tina Koladycz. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association or to the charity of your choice.
