John Price

John Morris Price, age 72, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, December 28, 2019 at his residence. A Rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, January 3, 2020 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. John was born July 21, 1947 in Tyler, son of the late John and Lucille (Morris) Price. He attended St. Gregory Parochial School in Tyler, graduated from Palestine High School after his family had in 1962 relocated there, and attended Henderson County Junior College. On July 30, 1989 he was united in marriage to Brenda Thomas in Las Vegas, NV. John worked as a brakeman and conductor for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 30 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. John was also a member of the National Association of Royalty Owners. He enjoyed special automobiles, Baylor and Texas Tech football, NASCAR, fishing, riflery, working his land, living in the country, building structures, boating, vacations to the coast, and in his younger days riding motorcycles and collecting miniature trains. John loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and enjoyed countless get-togethers over the years at his place out in the country near West. He also enjoyed reunions with current and retired Palestine railroad employees. Survivors include his beloved wife of 30 years, Brenda Price of West; two sons, John T. Price and wife Rachel of Mountain Home AFB, ID and Austin J. Price and wife Sarah of Beaumont; two sisters, Patricia Arms and husband Geoffrey and Mary Suzanne Price; his aunt, Gladys Quilter; his grandchildren, Sadie, Sophia, and John Jr. "Tank"; brothers-in-law, Jimbo Thomas and wife Melanie and Mark Thomas and wife Tina; a sister-in-law, Jenny Swinney and husband Carey; nieces and nephews, Lauren Beck and husband Chris, Jason Swinney, Lisa Stone and husband Brian, Rachel Hailey, and Wesley Thomas and wife Kylie; and several other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Joe Weaver, Chris Beck, Danny Rampy, Mark Thomas, Adam Mechell, Trey Kolar, Geoffrey Arms, and Jimbo Thomas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
