John Allen McVay, age 65, of League City, passed away late Saturday, June 23, 2018 evening at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Mike Ashcraft officiating. Burial will follow at Gerald Cemetery near Leroy. The family will receive visitors 10:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. John was born June 24, 1952 in Bonham, the son of Herman and Johnnie (Kuhn) McVay. He was a 1972 graduate of Post High School and received an associate degree in Civil Engineering from TSTC. On May 24, 1975, he was united in marriage to Deborah Grudziecki in West. John worked as an estimator and civil engineer for Brown and Root, Houston Power and Light and Jacobs Engineering. He had also been an EMT and Volunteer Firefighter with Search and Rescue units for Glen Rose, Eager, AZ, Buffalo and League City. John was a past member of the Harley Owners Group and a past scout master. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, working on cars, fishing, hunting and watching western and war movies. He especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Damon McVay; and a niece, Melissa. Survivors include his beloved wife of 43 years, Deborah McVay of League City; children, John McVay Jr. of Austin, Laura Frank and husband Jason of Pearland, Samantha MacFarlane and husband Jacob of Odessa and Jeremy McVay of League City; a brother Dale McVay; a sister, Janis McVay; grandchildren, Callie Frank, Alexa Jean MacFarlane, Caitlyn MacFarlane and Zachariah MacFarlane; nieces, Shauna and Brooke; his mother-in-law, Betty Grudziecki; sisters-in-law, Susie Holecek and husband E.J. and Tammie Webster and husband Michael; and other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are E.J. Holecek, Michael Webster, Dale McVay, Bennie Monthie, Danny Bode and Michael Otto. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gerald Cemetery.
