John Earl Maler

November 14, 1933 — May 9, 2006

John Earl Maler, age 72, of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 9, 2006 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Mark Griffin officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery conducted by V.F.W. Post No. 4819 of West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Maler was born on November 14, 1933 in Abbott, the son of Albert and Jimmie Dae (Altum) Maler. He served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant in 1962. On June 5, 1954, he was united in marriage to Doris Leona Helm in West. He worked as a mechanic for the Goodyear Tire Company in Waco and Kendrick Tire Company in Mexia for many years until his retirement in 1988. John loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Ridin' High Cowboy Church in China Spring. His parents, three brothers, James Maler, Jimmy Maler and Joe Edd Maler, all precede him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Doris Maler of West; three sons, Johnny Ray Maler and wife Katherine, Ricky Maler and wife Sara, and Douglas Maler and wife Shona, all of West; three brothers, Charles Maler of Aquilla, Kenneth Maler of West and Jerry Maler of Whitney; four sisters, Beulah Zahirniak and Janet Peterson of West, Linda Whalen of Aquilla and Beverly Keen of Whitney; ten grandchildren, Aaron Maler, Cara Maler, David Maler, Derek Maler, Melissa Huffhines, Michelle Maler, Daniel Maler, Donnie, Maler, Charley Allison, and Christopher Maler; five great-grandchildren, Aubrey Maler, Halley Maler, Kadence Vrana, Kenleigh Maler, and Chandler Maler; several nieces, nephews, other friends, and relatives. Memorials may be made to Ridin' High Cowboy Church Building Fund.
