John E. Keen, age 89, of Arlington, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 13, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Todd Ewing officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. John was born October 20, 1927 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Florence (Brown) Keen. John graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1945 and York College in York, PA, prior to receiving a Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from Cleveland Ohio Podiatry College. He served his country with the United States Navy during World War II. John operated a clinic in Beaumont for several years before moving to Arlington in 1961. On July 30, 1967 he was united in marriage to Beverly Maler in West. John operated his own clinic, John Keen DPM in Arlington for over 34 years until his retirement in 1995. He was a Master Mason and member of the Masonic Lodge #438 in Arlington. John was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Whitney, Dallas County Podiatry Association and the Texas Podiatry Association. John enjoyed fishing, hunting, ice skating, playing golf and coaching women's softball. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and especially loved spending time with his friends and extended family. John will always be remembered for his fun loving spirit, sparkling eyes and infectious smile. We sincerely hope that all will hold his kindness and generosity in your heart. John is preceded in death by his parents; a son, John D. Keen; brothers-in-law, Charles Maler, John Earl Maler, Joe Edd Maler, James Maler and Jimmy Maler; and a sister-in-law, Linda Whalen. Survivors include his beloved wife of 50 years, Beverly (Maler) Keen of Arlington; a son, Alan Keen and wife Jennifer of Arlington; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Maler and wife Leona, and Jerry Maler and wife Louise; sisters-in-law, Beulah Zahirniak and husband Pee Wee, Janet Peterson, Jean Maler, Doris Maler and Terri Blevins; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Robert Peterson, John Conner, John Austin, Brazos Gibson, Tabitha Maler and David Gibson. Honorary pallbearers Troy Newland and Bill Lucas.
