John Brekel

December 7, 1934 — March 19, 2006

John N. Brekel, age 71, of West, passed away early Sunday morning, March 19, 2006 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. A rosary will be recited 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held 11:15 a.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vincent Chacko, IMS officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mr. Brekel was born December 7, 1934 in Heron Lake, Minnesota, the son of Paul C. and Rose (Younk) Brekel. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in Minnesota and North Dakota State College of Science. John served his country with the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict before being honorably discharged in March of 1955 at the rank of Corporal. On June 7, 1978 he was united in marriage to Linda Kay Taylor in Waco. John was the Director of Operations for MCI World Comm for over 20 years. He enjoyed flying airplanes and built remote controlled planes. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption and the Automatic Reunion Installers Department. He is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Debby Lee Brekel, and a brother, Paul Brekel. Survivors include his beloved wife of 27 years, Linda Brekel of West; two daughters, Sarah Brekel of Marlin and Theresa Ramey and her husband Rob of Nederland; three sons, John Brekel, Jr. and his wife Vickie of Kountze, Mike Brekel and his wife Scarlett of Beaumont, and Pat Brekel and his wife Amanda of Silsbee; a step daughter, Cindy Webre and her husband Kenneth; and a step son, Chris Tindell and his fiance Mandy all of West; mother-in-law, Amy Gray of Waco; a brother, Joe Brekel and his wife Audrey of Terre, MO; a sister, Helen Elliott of Arvada CO.; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers are Randy Forsythe, Orlando Rodriguez, Keith Webre, Rob Ramey, Remington Brekel, and Kevin Lynch. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center of West EMS.
