Joe W. Filer, age 101 of West, formerly of Tours, passed away Monday morning, February 12, 2007 in West Rest Haven. Rosary will be recited 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14th at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin's Catholic Church with Msgr. Isidore Rozycki, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery in Tours. Mr. Filer was born March 4, 1905 in McLennan County to Julius and Vickie Wanke Filer, and had lived in the Tours-West area all of his life and was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours where he served as an usher for a number of years and also was a member of St. Martin's Society, the Knights of Columbus Council #2305 of West, having been initiated in 1924 and a member of Catholic Life of Tours. He married Catherine Berger on January 26, 1932 at Tours. She preceded him in death on February 7, 1991. Mr. Filer is survived by his sons; Matthew Filer and wife Lillian of West and Wesley Filer and wife Judy of Waco; four grandchildren Raymond Filer and Richard Filer of West, Carol Filer of Austin and Anne Burrough of Winston Salem, N.C., and nine great-grandchildren. Active Pallbearers are Raymond Filer, Richard Filer, Justin Filer, Ricky Filer, Travis Filer and Ethan Filer. Honorary pallbearers are Shaun Filer, Mary Jo Filer, Karla Jo Filer, Holly Filer and Lucas Burrough.
