Joe Paul, age 88, of West, passed away after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at his residence with his family by his side. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 7, at Aderhold Funeral Home in West with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at the Bold Springs Cemetery near West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Born April 11, 1933, in Tokio, Texas, to Dewey and Wilhelmina Barber Paul, Joe loved swimming and spending time with friends. He attended school in Tokio and West before joining the United States Air Force on February 1, 1952. While stationed in Wiesbaden, Germany, he met the love of his life, Margot. After a lengthy engagement, they married on December 10, 1955, in Wiesbaden. The two enjoyed life together at their many duty stations in the states and Germany and had two children, Robert and Christina. Joe served in the United States Air Force for 26 years, including one tour in Vietnam, and retired on September 30, 1978. After retirement, he attended TSTI, earning an Associate in Applied Science degree in Horticulture and Horticulture Technology on May 22, 1981. He also worked at the local Circle K, volunteered with Meals on Wheels in West, and served as Treasurer for Bold Springs Cemetery Association. A long-time member of First Baptist Church of West and the VFW Post #4819 of West, Joe enjoyed taking his dog on long walks, visiting with friends, spending time with his grandchildren, and attending their activities. He loved animals and never met a dog or cat he didn’t like. Joe and Margot loved to go on cruises and traveled all over the globe, including places around the Mediterranean Sea, throughout the Caribbean, and stops along the Western United States, Canada, and Alaska. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Yeul Dean Robinson and Dewey Paul; and sisters, Peggy Paul, Carolyn Ann Paul, Doris Oden, and Pauline McLain. Survivors include his beloved wife of 66 years, Margot Paul of West; son, Robert Paul and wife Clare of West; daughter, Christina Aycock and husband Brian of Corpus Christi; sister, Sue Oden of Chilton; grandchildren, Trent Stiles, Alexandra Aycock, Joseph Paul, and Elisabeth Paul; and many cousins, other relatives, and friends. The family of Joe Paul would like to especially thank Compassus Healthcare and his caregivers, Leigh Ann Garcia and Twannia Brown.
