Joe B. Marek, age 76 of Penelope, passed away Monday evening, March 27, 2006 in a Waco hospital. Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, March 30th at St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West; with Rev. Ed Karasek, as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West. Mr. Marek was born to Frank Marek and Mary Krolik Marek on November 8, 1929 in Hill County and had lived in Hill County all of his life. He was a retired farmer and was employed at Towne Square Furniture Co. in Hillsboro for thirteen years. He attended Penelope school and was a member of St. Mary's Church of the Assumption in West and Catholic Life. He married Annie Mae Kolar, November 14, 1956 at West. Mr. Marek loved gardening and the outdoors, mowing the yard, cooking for his family, and making furniture. He loved the Big Joe Polka show and his Czech music and also loved to watch Monday night wrestling with his grandson Zachary. Mr. Marek is survived by his wife Annie Mae Marek of Penelope, a son Larry Marek and wife Judy of West; daughters, Jo Ann Nors and husband T.C. of West, Annette Meador and husband Scott of Penelope, Janette Porter of Temple, brothers, Eugene Marek of Dallas and Leon Marek of Bellmead; sisters, Albina Howard of Penelope, Willie Mae Skerik of Abbott and twin sister Josephine Kallus of Abbott; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey Nors of Corpus Christi, Joseph Nors of San Antonio, Zachary Meador of Penelope, Larry Joe Marek of West, Amber Marek of Waco, Christopher Bacak of Stephenville, Amanda Bacak of Palmer and Stacy Porter of Temple, a great-grandson Kristion Powers of Waco and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kotch Funeral Home in West. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Parish Center in West.
