Jimmy Slovak

Jimmy Slovak, age 54, of Abbott, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2022 at his residence due to health issues. A Rosary will be recited followed by a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Deacon Terry Timmons officiating. Burial will follow at Fatima Cemetery near Abbott. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Jimmy was born August 10, 1967 in Waco, the son of Johnny and Hermina "Hattie" (Vybiral) Slovak. He was a 1985 graduate of Abbott High School and a 2003 graduate of Tarleton State University. Growing up, Jimmy was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. He later became a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He loved the farm where he lived. Jimmy was an outstanding athlete and had a love for all sports. He was recruited by Ranger Junior College in Ranger, TX to play football in the fall of 1985. His overall love was baseball and he was able to secure his dream of playing for Southwest Texas and Kansas Wesleyan and even got a chance in the minors with the Bay Sharks (part of the Red Sox Organization). Jimmy was a student coach at Hill College and Tarleton. He enjoyed fishing, and the most important thing in life was his children. He loved watching them play sports and taking them out to eat. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Katherine Ann Slovak. Survivors include his two children, Molly and Michael Slovak, of Hewitt; a sister, Beverly Pustejovsky and husband Tony of Abbott; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
