Jewell B. Itschner Knippel, age 101, of Kerrville, formerly of West, passed away early Sunday, September 24, 2006 in Kerrville. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Bold Springs Cemetery near West, with Dr. John Crowder officiating. Jewell was born June 10, 1905 in Gadson, Alabama the daughter of Henry and Corrie Ann (Deloney) Beard. At the age of three her family moved to West where she attended school. She was a graduate of West High School where she was a member of the volleyball team. At that time the family was very active at the First Baptist Church of West. She attended Providence Nursing School in Waco. In 1924 she was united in marriage to Henry Lewis Itschner in West. They moved to Ingelside in 1928 to raise their family. Henry passed away in 1945. Jewell then married Arnold Knippel and he also preceded her in death. In 2005 she moved to Kerrville to be close to her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ingleside and a member of the Garden Club. Survivors include her daughter, Lou Carey McKenzie of Kerrville; three grandchildren, Bobby Carey and his wife Tina of Kerrville, Mary Suderski and her husband and Lisa Tomaszewski and her husband Rich, all of Houston; five great grandchildren, Allison, Austin, and Angelic Suderski and Alexander and Joseph Tomaszewski; and several other relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Peterson Hospice, 1121 Broadway, Kerrville, TX 78028 or to The Gideons, P. O. Box 293434, Kerrville, TX 78029-3434.
