Jessie Mae Vigus

Jessie Mae Vigus, age 91, of Gholson, passed away Monday afternoon, July 6, 2015 at The Atrium in Bellmead. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Gholson, with Rev. Marvin Donnell and Rev. James Stevens officiating. Burial will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Jessie Mae was born August 29, 1923 in Waco, the daughter of Ira and Willie Mae (Burton) Ward. She attended schools in Waco and was a graduate of Waco High School. On August 26, 1943 she was united in marriage to Frank L. Vigus at Ft. Hood. Frank preceded her in death on September 21, 1985. Jessie Mae was a seamstress for the Clifton Manufacturing Company before retiring in 1970. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Gholson, where she served as Sunday School Director, worked with Vacation Bible School and was the Choir Director for over 34 years. Jessie Mae was a 55 year member of the Home Demonstration Club, delivered Meals On Wheels and served as treasurer for the Gholson School Reunions. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, camping and made her own lye soap and lots of candy. Jessie Mae is also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Frank Vigus Jr.; a daughter, Connie Vigus McCartney Smith; and brothers, Johnnie Ward and Hugh Ward. Survivors include a son, John Vigus and wife Barbara of West; 10 grandchildren, Darrell McCartney, Scott McCartney, Terrie McCartney-Knudsen, Jimmy McCartney, Denise Wagner, Lisa Vigus, Amy Vigus, Teresa Paige, Glen Vigus and Jeannie Nors; 7 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Darrell McCartney, Scott McCartney, Jimmy McCartney, Glen Vigus, Bradley Nors, Clay Nors, Clint Nors and Doug Wagner. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gholson Cemetery or Meals on Wheels.
