Jes R. Harrington, age 84, of West, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 26, 2007 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with the Rev. Ann Hitt and Rev. Bruce Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Harrington was born on August 9, 1923 in Sulphur, Louisiana, the son of Jes Rubert and Madie Pearl (Brannon) Harrington. He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Port Arthur where he served as President of his class and graduated in 1942. He then attended Lon Morris Jr. College and William Jewel College in Liberty, Missouri graduating with a degree in Sociology and Psychology. He also attended Southern Methodist University and Stephen F. Austin graduating in 1957 with a Masters Degree in Education. In served his country with the United States Navy from 1944 to 1945 as a cadet and pilot. On July 10, 1945, he was united in marriage to Margie Ann Samuel in Kansas City, Kansas. He worked as a Director for the Methodist Children's Home in Waco for over twenty years until his retirement in 1988. He previously was a principle for the Orangefield Independent School District, a teacher for Bridge City Independent School District and served as a Methodist Minister in Missouri. After his retirement, Jes wanted to stay active and continued to do some construction work and was a great handy man. He enjoyed building boats, woodworking, fishing, shrimping, and was a ham radio operator. He was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in West where he received the Lay Leader Award and was a member of the West Kiwanis Club. He is preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Margie Harrington of West; three sons, David Harrington and wife Kay of Clinton, MS, Harry Harrington and wife Sherry of West; and Van Harrington and wife Nancy of Norman, OK and; a brother, John Harrington of Bridge City; a sister, Virginia Montgomery of Nacogdoches; nine grandchildren, Kelly Harrington, Jes Harrington, Chris Harrington, Mike Harrington, Nick Harrington, Sam Harrington, Nikki Harrington, Zack Harrington and Austin Harrington; four great-grandchildren, Maddie, Amelia, Isabella and Claire; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Chris Harrington, Mike Harrington, Jes Harrington, Nick Harrington, Sam Harrington, Zach Harrington and Austin Harrington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church of West and West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
