Jerry Watson, age 73, of Elm Mott, passed away early Monday morning, August 4, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with the Rev. Chad McAninch, and Rev. R. L. Whitworth officiating. Burial will follow at Gerald Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Watson was born on August 4, 1935 in Enochs, the son of Clyde and Cecile (Patterson) Watson. He attended school in Muleshoe, Cal Farley's Boys Ranch, McLennan Community College and Baylor University. He joined the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict for four years as a helicopter mechanic. Jerry then attended M.C.C. and Baylor. On May 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Opal Lee in Snyder. He was owner and operator of several Exxon Stations in Waco for twenty years. He then worked as an insurance sales representative until his retirement in 2000. Jerry loved spending time with his family and enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a member of Praise Temple Assembly of God Church in Waco. Survivors include his beloved wife of 52 years, Opal Watson of Elm Mott; three daughters, Donna Devenney of Katy, Debbie Duncan and husband Ric of Sachse, and Sandy Turnage and husband Ron of Waco; one son, Jim Watson of Houston; one brother, Jack Watson of Oklahoma City, OK; two sisters, Carolyn Morrow of Nashville, TN and Louise Clegg of Kingsville; six grandchildren, Gregory Devenney, Stefanie Devenney, Mendy Hanson and husband Keith, Monica Salter and husband Jon, Aleisha Walburn and husband Brandon, and Trey Duncan; six great grandchildren, Jacob, Hailey, Hayden, Katie, Danielle, Ella, Marshall, Mason, Emily, and two on the way; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are Keith Hansen, Jon Salter, Trey Duncan, David Lee, Jerry Bob Lee, Gregory Devenney, and Ric Duncan. Honorary pallbearers are Bud, Rod Ready, Eschol Lee, David White and Steve Clegg. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
