Jerry Sparks, age 77, of Gholson, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 22, 2022 at his residence.
A celebration of his life will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2022 at the family cabin on the river located at 1154 Jake Sparks Drive, Waco, TX 76705, with Rev. Jay Swoveland officiating.
Jerry was born November 20, 1945 in Waco, the son of the late Jake and Dorothy (Lehman) Sparks. He attended school in Gholson and was a 1964 graduate of West High School, where he participated in football, basketball, baseball, and track. On June 19, 1965 he was united in marriage to Carol Willig in West. Jerry was a member of the First Baptist Church in Gholson. He worked for Alamo Steel in Waco, was a salesman for Central Texas Frame and Alignment in Elm Mott and owned the Brazos Queen in Waco for a short time. He was a peanut farmer and raised cantaloupes and watermelons in the Gholson area. Jerry enjoyed tending to his cattle, hunting, fishing, and was known as a very talented and artistic painter. He loved spending time with his family, especially watching his sons and grandchildren in all their sporting activities.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years, Carol Sparks of Gholson;two sons, Ricky Sparks and wife Becky of Gholson and Ronnie Sparks and wife Marci of Leroy; two brothers, Royce Sparks and wife Anna and Jack Sparks and wife Sherry; a sister, Ronda Sparks and husband Joe Ash; six grandchildren, Austin Sparks and wife Crystal, Travis Sparks and wife Kathleen, Daniel Sparks, Tanner Sparks, Matt Sparks, and Maegan Sparks; great grandchildren, Avery, Madison, and Brady Sparks and one on the way; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to charity of your choice.
