Jerry J. Mrkos, age 81, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, March 10, 2007 at Kindred Southwest Hospital in Ft. Worth. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at West Brethren Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Mrkos was born January 9, 1926 in McLennan County, the son of Frank and Frances (Husak) Mrkos. He attended schools in West. On May 25, 1944 he enlisted with the United States Army and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Private 1st Class on June 17, 1946. Upon his return he worked on the family farm near West. In 1955 he went to work at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Arlington where he worked for 31 years before retiring in 1986. He was a lifelong member of the West Brethren Church. He was also active in the West Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 4819, American Legion Post No. 478, S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 54, and the Mutual Aide Society. Jerry enjoyed listening to country and Czech music, being with friends at the V.F.W. Club, doing yard work, and he especially loved to spend time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Marvin Mrkos, Willie Mrkos, and Daniel Mrkos. Survivors include a nephew, Bruce Mrkos of Arlington; two nieces, Marilyn Barnard and husband Kenneth of Cleburne and Kathy Stroud and husband Carter of Grandview; seven grandnieces and grandnephews; ten great grandnieces and great grandnephews; and many other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Bruce Mrkos, Carter Stroud, Adam Stroud, Issac White, Jeremy King, and Philip Kennedy. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
