Jerry F. Matus

Jerry Frank Matus, age 64, of West, passed away Wednesday evening, November 28, 2012 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Temple. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 3:00 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Boniface Onjefu as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Jerry was born June 8, 1948 in Waco, the son of Frank W. and Vlasta (Kral) Matus. He attended schools in Abbott. He served his country with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. On February 20, 1971 he was united in marriage to Frances Kubala in West. Jerry was a mechanic and supervisor for Texas Prestressed Concrete for over 30 years before retiring in 2007. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #478, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819, Knight of Columbus Council #2305, and the K.J.T. Society #31. Jerry enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years, Frances Matus of West; a son, Joseph Matus and wife Debra of Aquilla; a daughter, Tammy Richard and husband Brian of Waco; a brother, David L. Matus and wife Cathy; grandsons, Joey Matus and Andrew Richard; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Johnny Ray Hutyra, Bill Polansky, James Matus, Joe Kubitza, and John David Matus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
