Jerome E. "Jerry" Hutyra, age 72, of Burleson, formerly of West, passed away early Tuesday morning, February 27, 2024 in Burleson.
A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard.
Jerry was born October 19, 1951 in Waco, the son of Emil and Marilyn (Grimm) Hutyra. He attended schools in Tours and West and was a 1970 graduate of West High School prior to receiving a Bachelor of Applied Arts and Sciences Degree from Tarleton State University, his Master of Science Degree from Texas A&M in Commerce, and a Doctorate from the University of North Texas. On August 16, 1997 he was united in marriage to Jessica Worsham in West. Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Air Force with the 301st Communication Squadron, Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth, Texas, as a Radio Communications Supervisor. Jerry was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Burleson. He was also a member of Toastmasters International, a past 11th District Commander of the American Legion, a past Commander of American Legion Post #478 in West, a former president of TSTC Alumni Association, and Chairman of the Tarrant County Homeless Veterans. Jerry was a professor for Tarrant County College in Ft. Worth and Texas State Technical College in Waco. He worked in higher education for a total of 46 years. Jerry enjoyed dancing and listening to polka music and drinking a pivo with his friends (who called him "Yado"). He had a great passion for working with students in higher education and was an avid Dallas Cowboys football fan. He dearly loved spending time with his family.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; a sister-in-law, Charlotte Garcia; a niece, Emily Rose Hutyra; his mother-in-law, Barbara Grumbles; and his father-in-law, Bobbye Worsham.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 27 years, Jessica Hutyra of Burleson; two step-children, Michelle Bates and husband Tim of Fort Worth and Lawrence Bull and wife Shelia of Waco; his grandchildren, Kirsten, Hunter, Jacob, Savannah, David, Jennifer, Abigail, Lorelei, and Katiya; his great grandchildren, Kayden, Lukas, and Zaily; his brothers, Tom Hutyra and wife Janice, Anthony Hutyra, Charles Hutyra, Johnny Hutyra and wife Lisa, Richard Hutyra and wife Felisha, and Matthew Hutyra and wife Amy; his sisters, Mary Rose Schwartz, Theresa Polansky and husband Charles, Ruth Ann Hutyra, and Phyliss Teasdale and husband Brad; sisters-in-law, Jennifer Ordner and husband Kevin and Deborah Smithson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Active pallbearers are Tom Hutyra, Anthony Hutyra, Charles Hutyra, Johnny Hutyra, Richard Hutyra, Matthew Hutyra, and Charles Polansky. Honorary pallbearers are his nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to TSTC Foundation, The Diocese of Austin Seminary, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
