James T. Bohannan, age 75, of West, passed away early Tuesday afternoon, January 25, 2011 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco, surrounded by his family. A Rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Mr. Bohannan was born January 18, 1936 in West the son of William Ross and Lizzie (Holland) Bohannan, Sr. He attended West schools and graduated from West High School in 1956. On January 4, 1958 he was united in marriage to Lillian Annie Hubik in West. James was a sales manager for H&R Carpet in West for 33 years, before retiring in October of 2010. He previously worked for Southern Life and Health Insurance Company, Pure Milk Company, Ben Franklin, and was the manager for West Affiliated for several years. James was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2305, the West Men's ACTS Group, the West Sports Angler's Club, and a past president of the West Bass Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking, and taking care of his cats and his dog "Sugar". He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren. James is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Debra Sue Smithey; and a sister, Joyce Ballew. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years, Lillian Bohannan of West; a daughter, Deana Laubert and her husband Richard "Ollie" of West; three sons, Dennis Bohannan and his wife Debbie and Darron Bohannan, all of West, and Dale Bohannan and his wife Patti of Arlington; a brother, W.R. "Bo" Bohannan Jr. and his wife Syble of West; a sister, Doris Slay and her husband John of West; 14 grandchildren, Brian Laubert, Alan Laubert, Colby Bohannan, Brandon Bohannan and wife Meghann, Justin Bohannan and friend Valerie York, Colton Bohannan, Dillon Smithey, Hayden Bohannan, Ty Bohannan, Becky Kudelka and husband Matt, Leann Kaluza and husband Nathan, Julie Manjarrez and husband Esteban, Lindsey Bohannan and fiance Stephen Melancon, and Sarah Barak; 3 great grandchildren, James, Brayden, and Samuel Ross; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are his grandsons and honorary pallbearers are his granddaughters. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Scott & White Hospice at Hillcrest, West Volunteer Fire Department, or West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
