James R. "Butch" Pavelka, age 67, of Elm Mott, passed away late Wednesday morning, August 14, 2013 at Providence Health Center in Waco, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Bishop Todd Bell officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at West Brethren Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Butch was born July 4, 1946 in Marlin, the son of Frank and Henrietta "Hattie" (Sustala) Pavelka. He grew up on South 3rd Street in Waco until moving to Roane in 1963. He was a 1964 graduate of Kerens High School. Butch served his country with the United States Army National Guard from 1967 to 1971. He was a cowboy and worked for many ranches and livestock auctions. Butch was well known in the area for his ranching, livestock and horse skills. Butch is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Frances McClellan and Kathy Blessing. Survivors include his dear cousin and caregiver, Teresa Kasik Orr and her family of West; children, Todd Pavelka Sr. and wife Teresa, Chris Pavelka, and Christi Pavelka, all of Garland; grandchildren, Brook Prock, Matthew Pavelka, Adrianna Pavelka, Cecile Pavelka, Tehya Pavelka, Wyatt Pavelka, Savannah Pavelka, Landree Pavelka, Farrah Pavelka and Braiden Pavelka; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Tommy Kalina, Kenny Kunkel, Clarence Holder, Sam Crain, Rex Jean and Frankie Pavelka. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
