James L. Green, Sr.

James L. Green, Sr., age 78, of Oglesby, formerly of West, passed away Monday, April 14, 2008 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Masonic Rites conducted by the Waco Masonic Lodge Funeral Committee. Burial will follow at Bold Springs Cemetery near West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. James was born on March 8, 1930, the son of James Ivy Green and Ann Stithen. He graduated from Oglesby High School and received an athletic scholarship to the University of Texas but was unable to complete his studies because of family responsibilities. On July 3, 1955 he was united in marriage to Dee C. Green. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1982. James was owner of Waco Fire Proof and Storage for over 15 years. He also worked as a postal clerk for the Waco Post Office for over 20 years, and was co-owner of Heritage Antiques in West. He also did estate appraisals and auctions. James was a hard worker and loved to fish, deal with antiques, and spend time with his children. He helped to organize the first Westfest and also donated the West Depot back to the city, where it is now a museum and Chamber Office. He was a member of the Waco Scottish Rite of Free Masonry. Survivors include his mother, Ann "Mama Green" of Waco; three sons, Charles M. Green and wife Judy of Clarksburg, WV., James L. Green, Jr. and wife Ada of West, and Christopher Horne of Oglesby; two sisters, Edna Reed of Hewitt and Ruby Holder of West; five grandchildren, Andrew Arnett and wife Marlynda, Jeremy Green, Jana Green, Alex Green, and Kari Green; four great-grandchildren, Jaden, Jordan, Zaley, and Gavin; special friend, Janet Anderson; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children.
