James J.W. Buzbee

July 29, 1926 — January 17, 2015

James Woodrow "J.W." Buzbee, age 88, of Gholson passed away peacefully Saturday evening, January 17, 2015 at The Atrium in Bellmead. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Rev. Ann Hitt officiating. Masonic Graveside Rites will follow at Gholson Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at the funeral home. J.W. was born on July 29, 1926 in Falls County, the eldest of five children to Odis & Lessie Augustus (Ritter) Buzbee. He attended McClanahan School. At the age of 16, he & his brother Gus left home to join the United States Navy serving as a Seabee. He was also a World War II Veteran. After returning home, J.W. was united in marriage to Viola Anne Neumann on October 30, 1947 in Marlin. She preceded him in death on January 1, 2009. During 1959, they relocated their family to the community of Gholson where they raised their six children. J.W. was a dairy farmer & rancher, successful business owner having founded Buzbee Feed & Seed, Inc. with his wife Viola. He was a member of West Masonic Lodge #475, Eastern Star, Scottish Rite, & the Karem Shrine. J.W. was also a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church in Gholson. He loved the country life, fishing, hunting, and playing cards and dominoes. J.W. loved spending time with family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. J.W. was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Shanna Buzbee; a great granddaughter, Kynadi Jo'Ann Buzbee; brothers, Gus Buzbee, Odell Buzbee, & Roy Lee Buzbee; and a sister, Lessie Green. Survivors include four sons, James Buzbee & wife Jana of Aquilla, Joe Buzbee & wife Cindy, Tom Buzbee & wife Peggy, and Terry Buzbee & wife Sonja, all of Gholson; two daughters, Leona Saunders of Corpus Christi and Linda Buzbee of Waco; two sisters, Betty York and Sue Ayers; eleven grandchildren, Rob Saunders, Lisa Davis, Trey Buzbee, Brant Buzbee, Shari Page, Roxann Watkins, Tamara Jupe, Justin Buzbee, Jody Buzbee, Cody Rieger and Cady Cummings; nineteen great grandchildren, Logan & Lynne Davis, Samuel & Austin Saunders, Bayden, Bryder, & Kolton Buzbee, Jason & Jasmine Phillips, Taylor & Rylee Page, Lane Jupe, Kade, Kooper, & Easton Buzbee, Kylei, Landa, & Marlie Rieger, Brynlee Cummings and one on the way; a great-great grandson, Jaxon Phillips; a special friend, Margie Shelburne; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are J.W.'s six grandsons, Rob, Trey, Brant, Justin, Jody, & Cody, as well as "our brother from another mother" Randy Roddy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, First Baptist Church of Gholson, Gholson Volunteer Fire Department, or to the Kynadi Jo'Ann Buzbee Memorial Livestock Scholarship Fund (c/o The First National Bank of Central Texas). The family wishes to thank The Atrium of Bellmead for the care of our beloved family member.
