James "Jima" Holecek, age 76, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, May 6, 2017 at his residence. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Jima was born September 30, 1940 in West, the son of John F. and Rosie (Karlik) Holecek. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School and University High School. James served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves. On July 12, 1969, he was united to Jeanette Volcik in West. Jima was a journeyman carpenter, working for many different contractors in both commercial and residential. Jima was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the Carpenters Local Union No. 622 and American Legion Post #478. Jima enjoyed taking care of his cattle, dogs and chickens. He also enjoyed gardening, greeting people at West Hardware, taking care of West Baseball and Softball fields and driving his truck around town. Jima is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Eugene Holecek. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Jeanette Holecek of West; sons, John Holecek and wife Tammie of Abbott and Jason Holecek and wife Alisha of Denton; a brother, Ernest J. Holecek Sr.; sisters, Frances Osborne and husband Gene and Evelyn Kocian; sisters-in-law, Vicki Janek and Loretta Jane Volcik; brother-in-law, Harry Volcik and wife Rose; grandchildren, Wyatt, Lincoln, Makenna and Brynlee and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Gene Holecek, Eddy Holecek, Michael Holecek, Ronald Osborne, E.J. Holecek Jr, Joseph Holecek, Gus Kocian Jr and John Kocian. Honorary pallbearers are Vernie Goldsmith, Albert Matus, Matthew Beseda, Doug Nors, the Saturday evening Mass Ushers and the West TrueValue Hardware group. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West League Baseball/Softball Association.
