James Goodnight

June 16, 1939 — June 11, 2024

James Ray Goodnight, age 84, of Gholson, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 11, 2024 at West Rest Haven.


Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 17, 2024 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Brother Terry Crawford officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at West Brethren Cemetery in West, conducted by West Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.


James was born June 16, 1939 in Quanah, Texas the son of the late Rayford and Stella (Rust) Goodnight. He was a 1957 graduate of Pampa High School and attended North Texas State University in Denton. On May 28, 1961 he was united in marriage to Rochelle Clark in Dallas. James proudly served his country with the United States Marine Reserves. He was a member of West Brethren Church and a life member of the National Rifle Association. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Raytheon for many years before retiring in 2000. James enjoyed shooting, machining, wood working, and spending time with family and friends. He was known as a history buff and an avid reader.


Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Rochelle Goodnight of Gholson; his children, Julie Goodnight of Elm Mott, William Goodnight and wife Rhonda of Garland, and Brian Goodnight and wife Wendy of West; his grandchildren, Mary, Bailey, James, and Will; a sister, Nancy Hard and husband Meredith; a sister-in-law, Roberta Maloney; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.


Pallbearers are William Goodnight, Brian Goodnight, James Truitt Goodnight, Will Goodnight, Stephen Dupree, David Winget Sr., Mark Case and Jason Warford.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Brethren Cemetery Association.
