James Gillaspie, age 57, of Tokio, passed away late Wednesday night, March 9, 2011 at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco. Memorial services will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday at the Tokio Baptist Church near West, with Rev. Terry McElrath and Rev. Mark Griffin officiating. James was born November 30, 1953 in Waco, the son of Raford J. and Eula Mae (Aycock) Gillaspie. He attended the Brook Avenue School in Waco and graduated from West High School in 1971. James served his country with the United States Army. He then received truck driver training form the American Truck Driving School. James was a truck driver for Central Freight Lines and Wal-Mart Distribution Center. He was a member of the Ride'em High Cowboy Church in China Spring. He is preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Eula Mae Dekle of Tokio; a step-son, Terry A. Slagel; three step-daughters, Kim Slagel, Margie McCommas, and Stacie Miller; two brothers, Mickey L. Gillaspie and wife Debbie, and Jerry Ray Gillaspie and wife Michelle; four step-sisters, Leann Goedeka, Pam Richardson, Shawn Shafer and husband Mike, and Lisa Machowiak; several step-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
