James F. Guin, Sr.

James F. Guin Sr, age 65, of Waco, passed away early Monday evening, June 28, 2010 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Aderhold Funeral Home by Cynthia Guin, followed by a visitation until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Closner Cemetery near West, with Rev. George Elvis McCart officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by West V.F.W. Post No. 4819. James was born November 28, 1944 in Castor, Louisiana, the son of Daniel and Lena Mae (McCart) Guin. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Vietnam War. On February 14, 1987, he was united in marriage to Jo Ann (Wedeking) Guin in West. He managed several motels in Waco, Amarillo, Louisiana, and Ft. Worth, including Motel 6, Sheraton Inn, Best Western, RiverPlace Inn, and Fairfield Inn. He was also owner and operator of the bar "Somewhere Else." While in Louisiana, James coached women's softball. He loved to fish, target practice, old cars and driving too fast. He also enjoyed keeping up with politics and watching the history and religion television channels, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the First United Church in West. He is preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Daniel Guin who died on December 22, 2008. Survivors include his beloved wife of 23 years, Jo Ann Guin of Waco; three sons, James F. Guin, Jr. of Waco, Wayne Guin and wife Stephanie of Jacksonville, Florida, and Wesley Shealey and wife Jennifer of Fishers, Indiana; one daughter, Wendy Wade and husband Eric of Union, Missouri; one brother, Carson Ray Guin and wife Cynthia of Gueydan, Louisiana; one sister, Peggy Powell and husband Calvin of Huntsville, Arkansas; six grandchildren, Courtney Seale, Mariah Wade, Reba Guin, Nicole Shealey, Brittney Shealey, and Benjamin Shealey; two great-grandchildren, including Coltyn Thomas James Parker; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Honorary pallbearers are James "Jim" Guin, Jr, Paul Ascher, Darren Wedeking, Robert Groskreutz, Keith Chapman, Eric Wade, and Wayne Guin. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
