James Alvin Carson

James Alvin "Slick" Carson, age 87, of West, passed away late Saturday morning, December 1, 2007 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West by Seminarian Ron Feather, followed by a visitation till 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Mr. Carson was born February 27, 1920 in Dalhart, the son of Pearl Carson. He attended schools in Dalhart. In 1961 he was united in marriage to Mildred McDonald Glew in Belton. Shortly thereafter they moved to West where James worked for West Chemical and Fertilizer Company, he retired in 1999. On July 22, 2006 Mildred preceded him in death. James enjoyed spending time with family and friends, reading comic books, and watching old western movies. Even though he had not been born and raised in the West area, James always commented on how wonderful the West people were to him and this community was the nicest and friendliest location he had ever lived in. All his friends in West will surely miss him. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He is preceded in death by one son-in-law, Eugene J. Bajer; three brothers, Connie Moore, Milton Moore and Buddy Moore; one sister, Florene Lindley; and cousins, "Fat" and Everett Lee Carson. Survivors include three daughters, Carol Bajer, Bonnie Archer and husband Cliff, all of West, Brenda Long and husband Tommie of Stratford; one honorary daughter, Rebecca Seals of Florida; six grandchildren, Eugene "Chip" Bajer and wife Cami, who he called "Tammy", Christine Holecek and husband Greg, Damon Baldwin and wife Carol, Kevin Long and wife Angela, Malcolm Long and wife Amy, and Justin Long and wife RaChelle; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Active pallbearers are T. J. Long, Haden Long, Carson Bajer, Collin Bajer, Kole Holecek, Eugene "Chip" Bajer, Andrew "Andy" Bajer, Gregory Holecek, Damon Baldwin, Kevin Long, Malcolm Long and Justin Long. Honorary pallbearers are Julio Rodarte, Jerry Sinkule Jr., Cody Dragoo and Ted Uptmore. Memorials may be made to ACTS Mission, St. Mary's Parish Center or St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
