Jack D. Howell

Jack D. Howell, age 86, of Garland passed away Tuesday afternoon, May 20, 2008, in Garland. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with the Rev. Isidore Rozycki officiating. Burial will follow at St. Martin's Cemetery near Tours. Jack was born September 18, 1921, in Walnut Springs, the son of Bryant L. and Mattie (Bryan) Howell. He was a graduate of Stamford High School and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University in 1949. He served his country with the United States Army Air Corps during World War II. On December 27, 1952, he was united in marriage to Georgia Marie Vrba in Tours. She preceded him in death on August 19, 2007. Jack was an accountant for Sinclair Oil Company, later Arco Oil Company, in Texas, New York and Oklahoma for more than 20 years. He later worked for Continental Trailways in Dallas for more than 15 years and retired in 1991 with the Defense Contract Administration Agency in Richardson. Jack was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Dallas. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Fort Worth. Jack enjoyed politics, watching CNN, reading the newspaper, football and fishing. He is also preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bryant Howell and Henry Howell; and a sister, Mae Clokey. Survivors include two sons, Randy Howell of Garland and Ronald Howell of Temple; a sister-in-law, Geneva Howell of Bridgeport; two brothers-in-law, Ermin Vrba and his wife, Annie, of Sherman, and Stanley Vrba Sr. and his wife, Barbara, of West; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Ted Uptmore Sr., Stanley Vrba Sr., Stanley Vrba Jr., Anthony Vrba, Randy Vrba, and James Cagle. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
