J. D. Horton, age 74, of Aquilla, passed away Monday evening, October 10, 2005 at Lake Whitney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with the Rev. Brandon Davis officiating. Military Graveside Rites will follow at New Lebanon Cemetery near Aquilla, conducted by V.F.W. Post 4819 of West. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mr. Horton was born on May 19, 1931 in Merkel, the son of Robert Perry and Amanda Lee (Parker) Horton. He attended Blevins Elementary in Arkansas. In serving his country he joined the United States Air Force serving in the Korean Conflict and in Japan. While in the Air Force he continued his education and then returned to Waco Technical College to study as a Machinist. On March 30, 1956, he was united in marriage to June Faye Reese in Waco. He worked as a machinist for Sunbright Paper Company in Waco for over twenty years until his retirement in 1996. He also worked for International Paper Company and Cameron Mills in Waco. J. D. enjoyed working and loved tending to his garden, hunting and fishing. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teasing his wife. He will surely be missed by all of them. His parents; six brothers and six sisters, all precede him in death. Survivors include his beloved wife of 49 years, June Horton of Aquilla; three sons, Perry Horton and wife Pam and Paul Horton and wife Karren, all of Aquilla, and Parker Horton and wife Marcy of West; three brothers, Vernon Horton and wife Jean of Lufkin, Floyd Horton and wife Doris of West and Clinton Horton and wife Zoile of Jacksville, Florida; two sisters, Lucy Gilmore and husband Henry of Kenner, Louisiana and Edna Hammitt and husband Elmo of Crawford; sister-in-law, Jean Harkins and husband Shorty of West; six grandchildren, Danielle Lanier and husband Billy, Chance Horton, Sarah Gaudet and husband Brad, Christine Bryan and husband Clayton, James Horton and Lillian Horton; three great-grandchildren, Tealie Gaudet, Lydia Lanier and Michael Lanier; and multiple nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be James Horton, Chance Horton, Shorty Harkins, David Tarvin, Randy Horton, Chuck Horton, Terry Tarvin and Brad Gaudet. Memorials may be made to West Ambulance Association.
