Irne Maye Hale, age 96, of West, formerly of Miles, TX, passed away early Friday morning, March 30, 2007 at West Rest Haven in West. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Talpa Cemetery, with Rev. Gary Karschner officiating. Mrs. Hale was born November 27, 1910 on the "dear old farm" near Talpa, the daughter of Eugene and Flora (Kennedy) Richey. She attended schools in Talpa and was a graduate of Talpa High School. Irne then attended Daniel Baker and Howard Payne Colleges in Brownwood. On July 10, 1932 she was united in marriage to Ira D. Hale in Talpa. He preceded her in death on August 16, 1982. Irne taught school before and after they were married and continued to substitute teach for many years. From 1939 to 1943, she and Ira owned a grocery store in Ft. McKavett before moving to Dallas where they both worked for North American Corp. building airplanes. In 1945 they moved to Christoval where they operated the Red & White Grocery Store. In 1948 they bought the Ideal Food Store in Miles, TX and operated in until they retired in 1970. She and Ira were very faithful members of the First United Methodist Church in Miles. Survivors include one son, Ira D. Hale, Jr. and wife Libby of West; two grandsons, David Hale and wife Laura of Boulder, Colorado and Walter Hale of DeSoto; one granddaughter, Kathryn Vadakin and husband Jerome of Laurel, Maryland; great grandchildren, Kevin Hale and Lauren Hale; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Honorary pallbearers are G.A. (Shorty) Granzin, Charles Ehrig, Dalton Lacy, Erwin Keisling, Larry Ray, Mitchell West, and Fred Sallings. Memorials may be made to Miles United Methodist Church.
