Idell Carlegis

Idell E. Carlegis, age 100, of Hearne, passed away late Friday evening, August 14, 2020 at her residence in Hearne. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 26, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Hearne. The family will receive visitors at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the time of service. Idell was born August 2, 1920 in Wellington, the daughter of J. T. "Jack" and Lillie Pearl (Branch) Estes. She was a 1938 graduate of Birdville High School in Ft. Worth. On January 7, 1939 she was united in marriage to Mike Carlegis in Weatherford. Mike preceded her in death on January 10, 1993. Idell was a longtime and faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Hearne, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She worked for Hearne Cotton Compress for over 40 years before retiring in 1980. Idell enjoyed taking care of her yard, watching the birds around her house, reading, and traveling. She loved volunteering for the Call For Help organization in Hearne, where she was recognized as the oldest volunteer. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Franklin Chapter, where she served as a matron and a chaplain. Idell is also preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, J.C. "Jimmy" Estes, Hobert Estes, and Donald Estes; and sisters, Betty Sharp and Pat Hendricks. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Juanita Estes of Riverside, CA; her good friends, Larry and Dianne Blackmon of West; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and forever friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Hearne.
