Ida (Hutyra) Matus Drozd, age 86, of West, passed away late Friday evening, July 25, 2014 at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Ida was born January 18, 1928 in Gonzales, the daughter of Emil and Frances (Pavlica) Hutyra. She attended St. Mary's School in West and was a graduate of West High School. On August 25, 1947 she was united in marriage to Ben A. Matus in West. Ben preceded her in death on August 5, 1980. She then married Jerry Drozd on July 31, 1988 in West. Jerry preceded her in death on June 2, 1993. Ida was a seamstress for Wolf Manufacturing and Lorch Manufacturing for many years. She also worked for Kolacek's Bakery and cooked for the West Senior Center for 10 years before retiring in 2008. Ida was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughter of America court #829, K.J.Z.T. St. Ludmila's Society #11. SPJST Lodge 54, and the West Veterans of foreign Wars Post #4819 Ladies Auxiliary. Ida enjoyed cooking and sewing. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends. Ida is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ed Hutyra (infant), Henry Hutyra, Emil J. Hutyra and Raymond Hutyra; and sisters, Evelyn Whitener and Mary Wachel. Survivors include a son, Ben R. Matus and wife Sherry of West; a brother, Roy Hutyra and wife Doris; a sister, Dorothy Podsednik and husband John; sister-in-laws, Georgie Hutyra, Lucille Sulak and Lucille Kveton; grandchildren, Garratt Matus and wife Becky, Brannon Matus and wife Amanda, Clint Burrow and wife Valerie, Clay Burrow and wife Melanie, Jerry Brown and wife Deana, Larry Brown and James Brown; great grandchildren, Erica, Dalton, Avery, Robby, Mason, Rylee, Shelton, Tanner, Colton, Cailynn, Curtis Lane and Gabby; and a Czech size family of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Doug Hutyra, Anthony Hutyra, Tom Hutyra, Roy James Hutyra, Johnny Wachel, Sam Whitener, John Podsednik and Tommy Girard. Honorary pallbearers are all her God Children and adopted grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caring staff of West Rest Haven, St. Catherine's and Providence Hospice for their compassion and love shown to Ida and to her family during her stay with them. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund.
