Henry August Kubala, age 95, of West, passed away early Friday afternoon, January 18, 2013 at West Rest Haven in West. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Tuesday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military Graveside Rites will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Kubala was born August 28, 1917 in Granger, the son of John F. and Anna (Prihoda) Kubala. He attended schools in Pilot Point. Henry served his country with the United States Marines during World War II and was honorably discharged at the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1946. On April 15, 1941 he was united in marriage to Josie Oujesky in Pilot Point. Henry worked for the Conroe Post Office for many years before retiring in 1983. He also worked for the Armour and Company in Ft. Worth and owned the Ideal Sanitation Company in Paris, TX. Henry was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. He was also a member of the S.P.J.S.T. Lodge #92 in Ft. Worth, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4819 and the K.J.T. Society in West and received a 75 year pin. Henry enjoyed carpentry, fishing, playing Taroky, and reading. He especially loved spending time with his grandkids. He played the trumpet in several Czech music bands including the Farizil Band. Henry is preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Mark Lansdown; brothers, Louis Kubala, Frank Kubala, Johnny Kubala, Victor Kubala, Dan Kubala and infant Emil Joseph Kubala; and sisters, Annie David and Louise Oujesky. Survivors include his beloved wife of 71 years, Josie Kubala of West; a son, Kenneth Kubala Sr. and wife Margaret of West; daughters, Yvonne Lansdown of West, Janice Bernsen and husband Ken of West, Sandra Kaplan of Miami, FL, Joyce Reichardt and husband Frank of Belton, Vicki Clanton and husband Lynn of Ft. Worth and Patti Click and husband Mike of Whitesboro; brother, Albert Kubala; sister, Evelyn Scaff; 20 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are grandsons, Jeff Bernsen, Kenneth Kubala Jr., Jarrett Kaplan, Darryl Kaplan, Ari Kaplan, Greg Clanton, Jayson Clanton, Eric Lansdown, Jeremy Lansdown, Trevor Lansdown and Patrick Click. Honorary pallbearers are granddaughters, Audra Jaeger, Kristie Bryant, Angela Kennedy, Andrea Clifton, Heather Jenkins, Jessica Stillwell, Jeana Schnedorf, Leah Howard, Monica Click and the Employees of West Rest Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West ACTS, St. Mary's School Endowment Fund or the charity of your choice.
