Helen (Vrba) Newman, age 91, of Waco, passed away late Tuesday afternoon, May 12, 2015 at her residence. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Tours, with Rev. Michael Ajewole as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Martin Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West. Helen was born October 23, 1923 in Leroy, the daughter, of Anton R. and Rosalie (Blahuta) Vrba. She was a 1942 graduate of West High School. On January 15, 1947 she was united in marriage to Carroll Newman. Carroll preceded her in death on March 15, 1984. Helen worked for 1 Hour Martinizing in Waco for 25 years before retiring in 1984. She was also a homemaker and worked for McCrory's. Helen enjoyed dancing, church activities and cooking. She especially loved spending time with her family. Helen is preceded in death by her parents; a son, Michael Wayne Newman; brothers, August Vrba, Tony Vrba, Eugene Vrba, Alphonse Vrba, Raymond Vrba, and Eddie Vrba; and sisters, Josephine Dvoracek and Della Burt. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Eldridge of Waco; a sister, Rita Snokhous; nine grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are John Michael Villa, Joshua Escobedo, Eric Gatlin, Chance Coffman and Kaitlyn Escobedo. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Fire Department or the charity of your choice.
