Hattie L. Kaska

Hattie L. Kaska, age 87, of West, passed away early Wednesday afternoon, August 28, 2013, at St. Catherine's Center in Waco. A rosary will be held 6:00 p.m. Thursday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Deacon Ronnie Sykora, with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Boniface Onjefu as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Hattie was born February 23, 1926, in West, the daughter of Mary (Kracmer) and Joe F. Soukup, Sr. She attended West area schools and received her GED from Hill Junior College. On May 7, 1946, she was united in marriage to Jerome Anton Kaska in West. Jerome preceded her in death on May 31, 1969. Hattie was a telephone operator for a number of years in Dallas. She and Jerome owned and operated the Four Corners Grocery Store and Jerome's Place in West. Hattie baked kolaches for Kaska's Czech Bakery in West and had worked for Ridgewood Country Club. She was a long time member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Hattie was a member of S.P.J.S.T. Lodge No. 6 and R.V.O.S. Lodge in Cottonwood and the Catholic Daughters of America Court No. 829 in West. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, sewing, baking kolaches and traveling. Hattie is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Louis Soukup, George Soukup, Johnnie Soukup and Joe Soukup; and sister, Katie Kaska. Survivors include three sisters, Rosie Knapek, Mary Neckar, and Lillie Matus and husband Raymond; two brothers, Al Soukup and wife Georgie and Steve Soukup and wife Frances; sister-in-law, Evelyn Soukup; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Danny Neckar, Alvin Soukup, Allen Soukup, Mike Soukup, Thomas Matus, Buddy Kaska and Ronnie Soukup. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund or to St. Mary's School Endowment Fund.
