Hattie Kolar, age 97, of West passed away Friday morning, April 8, 2016 at West Rest Haven. A rosary will be recited 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West by Dennis and Hattie Macha, followed by a visitation until 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, with Rev. Paul Hudson as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Hattie was born June 30, 1918 in Brooken, the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Hanak) Matus. She attended schools in Ross where she was a star basketball player and graduated from West High School in 1936. Hattie also attended beauty school and worked as a beautician until 1942. On November 12, 1940, she was united in marriage to Henry C. Kolar in West. He preceded her in death on September 7, 1988. They moved to San Diego, CA during World War II where Henry worked for Consolidated Aeronautics before returning to West. Hattie worked for Lorch Manufacturing from 1958 to 1969. She then worked as a proofreader for The West News for over 20 years, retiring in 1992. Hattie was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of America Court #829, St. Anne's Altar Society, KJZT Society #11 and KJT Society # 31. Hattie was a longtime member of St. Cecilia's Choir and the PTC / Assumption Choir. She served on the Board of Directors of West Fraternal Auditorium. Hattie loved to play Skip-Bo, dominos and 42. She loved listening to Czech music, singing and dancing. Hattie always loved to cook, bake kolaches and make her special chocolate chip cookies. Hattie is also preceded in death by a brother, Otto Matus. Survivors include a daughter, Geraldine Laubert and husband Ervin of West; two sons, Roger Kolar and wife Patty of Austin, and David Kolar and wife Rebecca of West; a sister-in-law, Adele Matus; ten grandchildren, Debbie Damm and husband Victor, Teresa Porter and husband Eric, Susan Bohn and husband Bill, Stephen Kolar and wife Margaret Vaaler, Linsay Tomlinson and husband Norman, Emily Kolar, Anthony Kolar, John Kolar and wife Jaclyn, Ryan Kolar and wife Courtney and Aaron Kolar; twelve great grandchildren, Jonathan, Megan, Peter, Erica, Joseph, Matthew, Brice, Miles, Isabella, Brooks, Alex and Ellie; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Stephen Kolar, Anthony Kolar, John Kolar, Ryan Kolar, Aaron Kolar, Victor Damm, Norman Tomlinson and Peter Johnson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clerical Endowment Fund of the Diocese of Austin or to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.
