Hattie Cecilia (Berger) Kucera, age 95, of West, formerly of Waco, passed away early Friday morning, October 18, 2013 at Quality Care Nursing Home in Waco. A rosary will be recited and Mass of Christian Burial celebrated 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption in West, with Rev. Edward Karasek as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home. Hattie was born July 11, 1918 in West, the daughter of Ignatius and Pauline (Filer) Berger. She was the youngest of 12 children. Hattie grew up on the family farm near Rogers Hill and attended Ross Schools. On November 3, 1937 she was united in marriage to Charlie E. Kucera in West. Charlie preceded her in death on April 12, 2004. Hattie lived in Waco most of her life. She was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and St. Veronica's Circle. She moved to West in 2005 and joined St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption. Hattie was a homemaker and enjoyed baking kolaches and homemade bread, playing "42", dancing and especially loved spending time with her family. They knew her as "Nana K", and they were always welcome in her home for a cup of coffee or to enjoy a delicious meal. Hattie is also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charlie Berger, Joseph Berger, Tom Berger, Edward Berger, Albert Berger, Henry Berger and Johnny Berger; sisters, Mary Schroeder, Annie Hessel, Rosie Gerik, and an infant, Katherine Berger. Survivors include three sons, Charles G. Kucera and wife Beth of Ft. Worth, Roger F. Kucera and wife Vee of Waco, and Dennis Kucera of Clifton; a daughter, Wanda Stacha and husband Anton of West; family member, Debbie Kucera; grandchildren, Dr. Dee Ann (Kucera) Salinas and husband Dr. Gerry, Roger P. Kucera and wife Wendy, Dawn McCauley and husband Ben, Christopher Kucera, Alicia Jenkins and husband Jerold, Amy Petrilla and husband Mark, Andrea Cook and husband Steve, Allison Harrison and husband John, Brian Stacha and wife Adria, Denise Beakey and husband Andy, and Debra Arabia and husband Vince; 23 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Active pallbearers are Christopher Kucera, Roger P. Kucera, Brian Stacha, Brice Gerik, Edward Cinek and Robert Cinek. Honorary pallbearers are all of her grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the West Volunteer Ambulance Association or to the West Rest Haven Disaster Relief Fund. Hattie's family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Quality Care Nursing Home for the special care and support. In addition they would like to thank the West Rest Haven Nursing Home for the many years of care received there.
