Harvey Herring

Harvey "Sonny" Herring, age 84, of Gholson, passed away late Friday morning, October 5, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be held 9:00 a.m. Monday at Aderhold Funeral Home in West, with Rev. Ed Karasek officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Herring was born May 19, 1928 in Waco, the son of Mattie (Toone) and Harvey J. Herring, Sr. He attended West Elementary and West High Schools. On March 28, 1948 he was united in marriage to Marcie Smith in Cleburne. Sonny operated the Waco Plating Company for over 30 years before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed taking care of his cows, reading, and watching western shows and movies. He especially loved spending time with his family. Sonny is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William "Bill" Herring; sister, Venita Sheffield; and daughter-in-law, Sandy Herring. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Marcie Herring of Gholson; two sons, Jack Herring and Rick Herring and wife Kristy, all of Gholson; brothers, Gerald "Jerry" Herring and wife Saundra and Jimmy Herring and wife Ruby; sister, Monelle Kitchens; sisters-in-law, Billie Herring and Lillie Shumate; 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; a great great grandson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Glenn Herring, Billy Herring, Joey Herring, Russell Herring, Randy Herring and Andrew Hawkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gholson Volunteer Fire Department or West Volunteer Ambulance Association.
