Harry Mattson

Harry Mattson, age 84, of Aquilla, passed away early Monday afternoon, September 30, 2019 at his residence. Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2019 at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, with Rev. Chris Silva and Rev. Joe Gingerich officiating. The family will receive visitors from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Harry was born November 4, 1934 in Plum City, Wisconsin, the son of Clarence and Ellen (Peterson) Mattson. He was a graduate of Maiden Rock High School in Wisconsin. Harry served his country in the United States Army. On October 21, 1961 he was united in marriage to Jean Carlsen in Lund, WI. Harry and Jean moved to Gholson in 1984. He worked for Waco Center for Youth for 12 years. Harry was a member of New Life Fellowship. Harry was an avid reader and had a great memory of poetry. He had a heart for missions and loved serving on mission trips. He was generous with lending a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Harry enjoyed building and fixing things (including their home), farming (on John Deere tractors), and spending time with children. He also loved and had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Harry was a wonderful dad, granddad, and friend to all he met. Harry is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Melvin Mattson; and a brother-in-law, Norman Holt. Survivors include his beloved wife of 58 years, Jean Mattson of Aquilla; five children, Darlene Mattson and husband Joe DeMars of St. Paul, MN, Lynelle Mattson of Aquilla, Norm Mattson and wife Keri of Woodstock, GA, Tony Mattson of Aquilla, and Sarah Battle and husband Brandon of Spring; five grandchildren, Andrew Mattson, Caroline Mattson, Brennan Mattson, Rebecca Battle, and Joshua Battle; four step-grandchildren, Jeffrey DeMars and wife Nikkole, Lucas DeMars and wife Nicole, Sarah O'Connor and husband Nathan, and Jill Bergstrom and husband Joe; a sister, Flora Holt; a brother, Clarence Mattson Jr and wife Betty; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Mattson, and Jane Ault and husband John; a brother-in-law, Martin Carlsen and wife Jane; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
