Harry Gene Nors, age 72, of Abbott, passed away Thursday afternoon, June 24, 2021 at Providence Health Center in Waco. A rosary will be recited 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Aderhold Funeral Home Chapel in West, followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2021, at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott, with Rev. Stephen Nesrsta as celebrant, assisted by Deacon Ronnie Sykora. Military Graveside Rites will follow at Fatima Cemetery, conducted by the West Veterans Honor Guard. Harry Gene was born May 15, 1949 in Waco, the son of Raymond and Lillian (Janek) Nors. He attended schools in Abbott and was a 1968 graduate of Abbott High School. On May 23, 1970 he was united in marriage to Netty Jo Sulak in Hillsboro. Harry Gene proudly served his country with the United States Army Reserves from 1968 to 1975. He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Abbott. Harry Gene drove a propane truck for Dixie LP Gas, while farming on the side. He also owned and operated the Abbott Cash Grocery for 14 years. After he sold the store, he went to work for Tymco in Waco for several years. Harry Gene was a very active lifelong member in the Abbott community, serving as Mayor and Fire Chief for the Abbott Volunteer Fire Department. He was also a member of the KJT Society #107, Knights of Columbus Council #11230 and the West Volunteer Ambulance Association Auxiliary where he helped with many of their fundraisers. Harry Gene enjoyed fishing, gambling, traveling, and mowing grass with his wife. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandsons. Harry Gene is preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law; an infant son; and a great grandson, Corbin Martin. Survivors include his beloved wife of 51 years, Netty Jo Nors of Abbott; his daughters, Paula Marek and husband Tom of Abbott, Virginia Blystone and husband Jerry of Houston, and Carla Hager and husband Kenn of Pearland; his grandchildren, Chelsey Martin and husband John, Christy Brantley and husband Ty, Darren Marek and girlfriend Cassie Pavlas, Courtney Sams, Curtis Sams, Collin Neill, and Cari Neill; great grandsons, Colton and Tucker; a brother, Bennie Nors and wife Sheila; sisters, Angeline Roznovsky and husband Johnny and Betty Jo Marley and husband Charley; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Pallbearers are Tom Marek, Kenn Hager, Jerry Blystone, Curtis Sams, Collin Neill, Darren Marek, John Martin, Ty Brantley, Colton and Tucker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Volunteer Ambulance Association and Abbott Volunteer Fire Department.
